Preparatory Work DIY-Camper

The journey to a robust and durably lasting campervan begins with crucial preliminary work. This includes not only thorough rust removal and underbody treatment but also accurate insulation and soundproofing. Here's how I proceeded:

1. Thorough Rust Removal:

Every journey starts with the first step: eliminating rust. Using wire brushes, sandpaper, and an effective rust converter from Presto, I meticulously treated every spot of corrosion. The goal was not only to remove superficial rust but to completely expose the metal to achieve a long-term solution.

2. Treatment of Damaged Paint Areas:

After the rust was successfully removed, I turned my attention to the damaged paint areas. For this, I relied on a high-quality primer from Rust-Oleum and completed the treatment with paint from Dupli-Color Aerosol. These steps were crucial to minimize the risk of future corrosion.

3. Cavity Sealing:

The hidden cavities in the vehicle pose the risk of undetected moisture accumulation that can lead to rust. With a special cavity sealant from Presto and a flexible applicator, I was able to reach and protect every hidden corner.

4. Underbody Treatment:

The underbody, which is particularly exposed to the elements, received comprehensive treatment with several layers of rust-proof primer and durable coatings for underbody protection, also from Presto. This careful treatment provides robust protection against rust and the daily challenges on the road.

5. Use of Alubutyl for Noise Reduction:

Another important step was noise insulation. For this, I used Alubutyl, a material that is excellent for minimizing vibration noises caused by the sheet metal. By applying Alubutyl to strategic places inside the vehicle, I was able to significantly reduce noise development, thus considerably improving driving comfort.

Conclusion:

These preliminary works are the cornerstone of any successful campervan conversion. They not only create the necessary solid foundation but also ensure that the van is well-equipped for future adventures. By using high-quality products from Presto for rust treatment and underbody protection, as well as the targeted application of Alubutyl for noise reduction, my campervan is now ready for the road – quiet and safe.
